Artist Notes: As any fly fisherman knows, there is something exciting about watching a brown trout explode from the water in pursuit of a mayfly. I wanted to capture that split second of energy and anticipation, when the fish launches itself toward its next meal. Using colored pencil, I focused on the rich golden-brown tones and distinctive spotting of the trout, contrasting them with the subtle, almost monochromatic water and splash. The result is a moment of wild beauty frozen in time.
